A Message From The Chief
Hello, everyone! My name is Steve Kona.
I would like to take this opportunity to explain the operations of the Nokomis Volunteer Fire Department. The citizens of Nokomis, Laurel, Osprey, Casey Key and the surrounding areas are protected by 42 State of Florida certified firefighter / EMT’s. Your firefighters are housed out of two Fire Stations, one located at 111 Pavonia Road and the other located at 1930 N. Tamiami Trl., which is a shared facility with Sarasota County Fire Department.
When an emergency does occur, the closest unit (fire truck or ambulance ) will respond to you. Being a volunteer department does not mean you will have to wait for the firefighters to respond to the station and then to your emergency. Your volunteer firefighters are on duty 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
There is a minimum of 7 personnel on duty at all times, responding with two Fire Engines, one Tanker and a Battalion Chief. We have a great working relationship with the surrounding fire departments so in the event we are working an incident and another emergency call comes in you may see another fire department show up on your emergency. We also provide the same mutual aid to the other surrounding fire departments. You always receive the closest unit response to your emergency.
We are committed to providing the best service to the citizens we serve from your continued support through your donations and dues. Please contact us anytime with your questions or concerns.
We can be reached by email or by calling at 941-488-8855.
